MOTHER’S DAY AT THE COLUMBIA ROAD FLOWER MARKET

No doubt mother’s across the land have received flowers today on Mother’s day.

I went one better.

I was treated to a trip to the fabulous  Columbia Road Flower Market in East London.

My father in law used to visit the Sunday morning market way back in the 1990’s when only gardeners and flower arrangers  were interested.

Now everyone is there.

Situated in the fashionable Hoxton /Shoreditch area just north east of central London, Columbia Road on a Sunday morning is now buzzing with activity, no more so than on Mothers Day.

Every plant imaginable and cut flowers to boot are for sale. The quality, colour, and variety are hard to beat, and so are the prices.

We loved it even though the crowds were something else.

There are  also  great cafes to visit – we loved it at the Lily Vanilli bakery (popcorn par excellence and lovely coffee).

You may end up paying more for your flat white and almond croissant than for a bunch of really fresh flowers but it’s a great Sunday morning experience.
