On New Year’s Day we dragged ourselves out of bed after a really memorable New Year’s Eve party in south east London, and drove to Hampton, near Kingston.

Of course Hampton is best known for Hampton Court, Henry VIII’s palace built by Cardinal Wolsey.

Hampton is also home to Hampton Pool, a heated outdoor swimming pool that’s open every day of the year.

Years ago I lived in the area and I swam there every day.  Run as an independent charity, this 36 metre pool is a godsend to those who love outdoor swimming.

I was therefore really excited (and delighted) to return to the pool for a New Year’s Day swim and a splash with my family. After the swim we had a great stroll around Bushy Park too which is right next to the pool.

I can’t think of a better way to start the new year. It was a really refreshing, upbeat, positive  and fun way to getting the year rolling.
