Winter’s not everybody’s favourite time of the year.
It’s cold and the darkness sets in all too early. This is especially the case today, as it’s the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.
There is though, something special about the winter light.
I’ve tried to capture it in this picture taken recently in Coombe Abbey Country Park, near Coventry.
It seems to be sharper, brighter and cleaner than its summer counterpart.
When the sun does come out it cuts through the atmosphere, amplifying the wonderful colours and shapes that are laid naked by nature.
The winter light when the sun is low, really is something special.
The sun glows and throws light, colour and shade across the landscape in front of you.
Summer, of course offers more obvious pleasures, but there’s something about the winter sun and light that’s hard to beat.
